Love is a funny thing. One moment you might be standing there minding your own business, when all of a sudden you are viciously attacked by a warm and passionate feelings. That's just the way it goes sometimes. Anywho, I would like to dedicate this cartoon to my lovely wife.
There is a rule of blog posting that says if you can't think of a title for a post, just shout something three times - in this case, Snowmen!
Anyway, this is a very special Beef cartoon, because it has not one, but two different endings. It's sort of like a 'glass half empty, glass half full' situation. Which one do you like more?
One of the initial ideas for this cartoon was to have a cat at the end, and the signs would read, 'good cop', bad cop', 'furry cop'. Perhaps the cat would also be wearing a police uniform, which would have been super cute, but I wasn't sure that it would be enough to tie the whole thing together. Then came the idea of robocop, and it all became crystal clear - I took out my sketchbook, pencils, and various other tools and went to work creating what can only be describe as 'my most recent cartoon'. I hope you like it; if you don't , then please pretend that you never saw it, and continue to enjoy the other ones.
this is the saga of 'sad Robin, happy Robin'...
when I first drew Robin, something strange and unexpected happened - he looked heart-droppingly sad; he looked like he just found out he was adopted; or like his cape shrunk in the wash; or like batmobile lost a wheel; or like he was simply going through a case of 'the mondays'.
at first I didn't really care - it's just one Robin with one sign that most people will never ever see, but thanks to some constructive feedback from my friend Amanda, I came to realize that no matter how insignificant, the world does not need a pathetic looking sidekick, especially in the form of a Birthday Buddy. So I went back to the drawing board, and went to work on creating the kind of smile that lights up a room - I literally turned his frown upside-down. Now he looks like he is ready to take on any challenge, villain related or otherwise :)
after ready this, you may have the following questions:
• What the heck is a "Birthday Buddy"? (good question - go here to find out)
• What are some other possible expressions that Robin could have? (maybe confused Robin, angry Robin, tired Robin, or even surprised Robin)
• How do you prevent your cape from shrinking in the wash? (it depends on the fabric - if you're unsure, dry cleaning is always a safe bet)
Alright, well I've gotta go - it's morning and I haven't showered, brushed my teeth, or had my coffee yet, and I haven't even decided which order to do these things in, so I have a lot of thinking to do. Till next time...
