a fish out of water

Sweet dots, Batman.

I saw a picture of an eagle carrying a fish the other day, and two thoughts came into my head:

1) Oh look, it's a picture of an eagle carrying a fish

2) I wonder what the fish is thinking (even though in the actual picture the fish had a fairly expressionless look on its face)

Anyway, I pondered this second thought for a while, and came up with a few ideas what might have been going through the fish's head. I then threw the question out to my massive Facebook audience for their thoughts. Here's what we came up with:

eagle and fish, together.

"So, how long have you been 'fly' fishing?"

"Thanks for the lift, you can just drop me right there.."

"Worst back massage EVER."

"Next time, I get to be on top."

"Are we there yet?"

"I have a bad case of bird flu - as in, a bird 'flew' by and grabbed me out of the water; and I'm probably going to die."

"Look, just because I agreed to go on this "date" with you, doesn't mean you're allowed to feed me to you kids..."

"Is it just me, or is there something fishy about this?"

“This is the last time I fly Eagle Airways"

"This is a much easier way to get upstream."

Thank you to myself (I thought of most of these), Jen, Scott, Connie, and X.Y for their contributions; you guys are awesome.

the KT extinction of 65 million BC. The Land of Le Beef, by Darren Lebeuf

As you have no doubt noticed, this special 'mass extinction' episode of the Land of Le Beef is breaking the Beef format in a couple of ways. Not only is it one of the rare Beef cartoons that contains a speech balloon, it is also rare occurrence of a Beef two-panel comic. I hope you are all savouring the magnitude of what you are witnessing here - it may not happen again for another 65 million years (or it might happen again next week; only time will tell).

On an unrelated topic, some people might be surprised to learn that I used to work at a palaeontology museum (as a designer), and I would like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to all of my dinosaur enthusiast friends - I hope you like my version of a parasourolophus and pachycephlosaurus; I apologize for any inaccuracies).

Awkward

socially awkward in the Land of Le Beef, by Darren Lebeuf

In case you're wondering if this is a self portrait, it's not - I don't own a shirt like that, and my hair's a little different. The rest of it actually does kind of resemble me a bit, especially the socially awkward part. Anyway, let's not bring my personal issues into this; let's just celebrate everyone's uniques differences. If we could all just join hands and sing 'From a Distance", then the world be a better place...

Tiger and zebras, at the Land of Le Beef by Darren Lebeuf

If you look really closely, you'll notice that I forgot to put whiskers on my tiger - major faux pas. You probably didn't notice or care, in which case there was no need for me to point it out. Something else you may not have noticed or cared about, is that fact that there are two different patterns on the zebras' faces - I tried both, promising myself that I would decided which one looked better and then make them the same, but I got so caught up in the process that their differences made it all the way through to the final stage. I kind of like it better this way. Anyway, I'm just babbling now. I'll stop.

If you like tigers, you can check out another recent tiger related post here.

a royal flush

It's a royal flush or something, at the Land of Le Beef (by Darren Lebeuf)

Here is the latest addition to the Land of le Beef line-up of super awesome cartoons. I know what you're thinking, "super awesome is a bit of an understatement". You're absolutely right, but I just spent spent the last three hours searching for a better description for this cartoon, and it turns out that 'super awesome' is the single greatest accolade that exists in the english language. The Russians have a word that slightly exceeds 'super awesome', but unfortunately I can't type it because my keyboard doesn't have a button that looks like an upside-down 'h', or a backwards 3 making love to a question mark. So hence, 'super awesome' will have to do.
